Tinubu To Visit China In September -Presidency

A former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri said he was saddened that the “Buy Nigerian campaign” is not evident in the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Omokri stated this in an interview on Channels Television on Friday.

He said, “I want to see a more rigorous ‘Buy Nigerian campaign. I’m a bit disappointed that it’s not evident in the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

“We need to push the ‘Buy Nigerian’ campaign at the governmental level too. We need to promote products made in Nigeria. Also, tell people that if there’s a made-in-Nigeria alternative for the foreign goods you buy, buy the Nigerian alternative.

“There’s Dangote; call with Glo; drive Innoson; and fly Air Peace. We cannot have a situation where 133 million Nigerians are spending $20 million on MTN and others. It’s going to South Africa and India. It’s putting downward pressure on the naira,” he said.

The former presidential aide, however, said the political reforms he was looking forward to were being implemented.

Omokri said, “First is the Orosanye report, so we will see a reduction in the Federal government ministries, departments, and agencies. This is what I’ve always clamoured for.

“The government has also said it will implement state police, another reform I’ve clamoured for. I’ve said we need state and community police in Nigeria.

“Also, there is devolution of powers, and this administration has promised to implement it. The only thing I’ve recommended and yet to see is the Uwais report.

“We need to implement the Uwais report on INEC, whereby the president should be stripped of the power to appoint the chairman of INEC and the commissioners.

“Also, we need to fight corruption. Corruption in Nigeria now is more in the regulatory bodies than the people stealing money.

“We cannot have a situation where the former head of NCC, FIRS, Minister of Information and Technology on the board of MTN. It will not be allowed where MTN is from. If we can implement all of these reforms, the country will become better,” he said.
