Gov Idris Flags Off Environmental Sanitation Excercise, Urges Public To Maintain Clean Environment

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade, Dr. Nasir Idris, has identified safe and clean environment as the most profound measure and preventive medicine against diseases and illnesses.

The governor made the assertion at the flag off of the reintroduction of monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the state this Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.

Represented by the deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, the Governor explained that his administration decided to reintroduce and reinvigorate the monthly programme because of its peculiar importance to human health and longevity.

“Clean environment and clean drinking water are highly necessary to the wellbeing of people to reduce airborne and waterborne diseases”, he emphasised.

Comrade Nasir adds, “My administration will maintain the enviable health position of Kebbi State, always to ensure that our people are healthy citizens and productive members of the society”.

The Governor cautioned the people not to expose themselves to dangers and hazards through dirtness and unclean surroundings to ward off diseases, saying illnesses are preventable if communities keep clean environment and drink clean water.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Musa Muhammad Tungulawa, said the Governor has mandated the Ministry to pursue the environmental sanitation campaign and awareness to fruition.

“On the last Saturday of every month, the exercise would be strictly carried out in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, and in all the local government areas of the state”, he announced.

Tungulawa made it clear that Governor Nasir Idris has attached prominence to environmental matters and attainment of absolute hygiene among the citizenry, giving the Ministry of Environment necessary support to reach the target objective.

After the flag-off, the deputy Governor in company of top ranking government functionaries, trekked from the venue of the event at the Eid prayer ground to the Palace of the Emir of Gwandu, Birnin Kebbi, where they were received by the Monarch.

Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, commended the state governor for his practical action to secure clean environment in the state.

The Emir tasked the people to remain loyal and prayerful for the success of the administration.

“Loyalty to leaders galvanises them to action, while good governance energises people to attain better life. Some states and Emirates elsewhere are undergoing trying periods. Kebbi State is in tranquility and security, let us continue to live in peace with one another”, he said.
