Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde says that the planned protest may be the result of widespread resentment and hunger throughout the nation.

Makinde said this while speaking at the grand finale of the 2024 Ibadan Cultural Week, organised by Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII).

Recall August 1 has been fixed as the day for a nationwide protest against hunger across the country.

Makinde stressed that people have the right to protest but cautioned that such movements should be done in a peaceful and not destructive manner.

Makinde said, “Nigeria might be in this predicament right now. It is possible that the land is feeling hunger and rage, which is why our people wish to demonstrate.

“Yes, protest is everybody’s right. But remember that we used your money to build all the structures and facilities we have put in place in this state, not mine.

“So, if you want to protest, it must be peaceful.

“If you start your protest, please refrain from damaging government property. If you do, we will have to use the funds that are meant to be allocated to important projects to replace any buildings that may be destroyed.”
