Minister: Nigeria Is Experiencing A Silent Energy Crisis

Balarabe Lawal, The Minister of Environment, said only one in 10% households in the country use clean energy sources and technologies for cooking.

Balarabe said implementing the National Clean Cooking Policy of Nigeria would attract about 10 million direct jobs among youths.

The minister said this on Saturday in a statement signed by the Head, Press and Public Relations Unit of the ministry, Ibrahim Haruna.

The minister was quoted to have said, “Nigeria is facing a silent energy crisis. Only one in 10 households in the country use clean energy sources and technologies for cooking.

“Traditional cooking using firewood and other harmful fuels like kerosene and charcoal is burdening women and causing deforestation, climate change, and fatalities.
