Gov Idris Sympathizes With Zulum Over Flood Disaster

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, visited Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people of Borno State following the devastating flood disaster that affected parts of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and the neighboring Jere Local Government Area.

The Governor led a high-powered delegation from Kebbi State to extend the sympathies of the people of Kebbi over the calamity, which resulted in the unfortunate loss of lives, destruction of property, and the washing away of farmlands.

While expressing his condolences to his Borno State counterpart, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor Idris described the incident as one of the most severe flood disasters in Nigeria’s history.

He urged Governor Zulum and the people of Borno State to see the event as an act of Allah, noting that Kebbi State had experienced a similar flood disaster some years ago.

Governor Idris expressed deep sympathy for the extensive damage caused, which included the destruction of residential homes, government buildings, hospitals, schools, places of worship, and, most tragically, the loss of precious lives.

He prayed for Allah to grant eternal rest to the departed souls and to prevent future disasters of such magnitude.

“We are deeply concerned and pained by this unfortunate incident,” Governor Idris stated.

The Governor was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala-Tafida; the Chief of Staff, Government House, Barrister Attahiru Maccido; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari; and Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Muazu.

Other members of the delegation included Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Dr. Junaidu Bello Marshal; Accountant General of the State, Alhaji Bello Ibrahim Nahaliku; Permanent Secretary, Protocol Affairs, Muhammad Sagir; and the Rector of Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, Dr. Usman Tunga.

Responding, the Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, expressed his appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for the prompt visit and concern shown towards the people of his state.

Governor Zulum noted that the visit underscores the longstanding cordial relationship between Kebbi and Borno States.
