Abandoned By Political Associates And Friends, Darius Ishaku Spends 72hrs in EFCC Detention
As the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) beams its torchlight on Taraba State, the former governor, Arc Darius Ishaku seems to be the next big thing after the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
The media seems to be inundated with the news, of the former governor detention as most news media, especially the social media took the lead in the allege arrest or invitation of the former governor.
But the arrest or detention of Arc Darius Ishaku was not an after thought, because of his alleged arrogance and mismanagement of power which was faulted by many and sundry especially the power that be in the state.
The former, it will be recalled benefited from the magnanimity of most prominent elites, especially Gen Theophilus Danjuma, who groomed him as a younger associate with a promise of delivering the needed development for the growth of the state, but alas, he, from inception became a demigod who’s penchant for refusing advise became untoward.
From the unset, former governor Darius Ishaku, had the support of all the elites in Taraba State as he rode on the goodwill and nature the General and other respectful elders in the state.
This could be seen from the support he got during his tussle with the former APC Flag Bearer, late Mama Taraba who from all indication would have been the first female governor in Nigeria.
His victory at the supreme court cemented his hold on the mantle of leadership in the state as he was declared the bonafide winner of the gubernatorial election.
While serving as the governor of the state, Arc Darius Ishaku sidelined all those that made him the number one citizen of Taraba State despite friendly overtures from well meaning individuals from both within and outside the state.
A case in the issue of his continuous victimization of the former Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, whom every individual believed should be his natural successor to the office of the executive governor of the state but who was forcefully shown the way out of the ruling party (PDP) in Taraba State as he had to decamp to the opposing APC in order for him to try and contest the gubernatorial election in the state.
Moreso, the present seating governor, Agbu Kefas, who then the Chairman of the ruling party, PDP, in the state found it difficult to relate to the governor then.
As it remains, Arc Darius Ishaku isolated himself not just to those that help him become what he was but also alienated even the people in the state when issues of development are mentioned.
Without mincing word, many Tarabans believed that Arc Darius Ishaku’s penchant for disregarding the matters of their well being is or was borne out of the the fact that he was never prepared or qualified for such an exalted position.
Albeit, his issues with many people in Taraba State was proven beyond every reasonable doubt as he failed to clinch the senatorial seat in his zone even as a seating governor.
As the people witnessed a new lease of life with the coming of Gov Agbu Kefas, the invitation by the Commission(EFCC) must not become routine for the ordinary Nigerian as most do not understand or believe that the fight by the Commission will yield any tangible fruit.
Unlike former governor Yahaya Bello, Arc Darius Ishaku seemed to be of another spirit even as he went to the Commission to answer pertinent questions about his dealings in his eight years tenure as the chief servant of Taraba State.
But the major grouse the former governor is dealing with is the arrest of his cohorts who are also being grilled by the antigraft agency.
Most who had served under the former governor had in the past 72 hours, which the former governor stayed with the EFCC had been called to answer to various allegations bordering on corruption.
Key amongst these are the moneys recieved from the federation account which is part of the state statutory allocation.
Another is a purported housing scheme which had remained in near nothingness as only a media charade was exhibited on the verge of the former governor exit from office.
On the verge of leaving office, most of his associates and friends abandoned him due to major differences and ideologies in his last days.
The issue on ground here is, former governor Darius Ishaku seemed to have fought himself, because as a then seating governor, he not just trampled on foots but also bit the fingers that fed him.
Many questions will arise from this, as the question remains that very few former governor in the present past in Nigeria had been without one form of allegation or another.
Yes, the office of the executive governor of a state in the country remains lucrative but and yet it continues to be attractive to all and sundry especially the elites.
Even as some believe that Arc Darius Ishaku, is an “ingrate”, what the EFCC will reveal in the coming days or weeks will determine the stance taken by the public as true.
Hopefully, some argue, he might not end up like a former governor of the state who was found guilty by a competent court of law and imprisoned.
