Following extensive consultations, three unions representing local government workers in Kebbi State —NULGE, NUT, and MHWU—have jointly requested a two-week extension to Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr.Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu to compile an accurate list of members for the implementation of the new minimum wage.

This request aims to ensure all members are accurately captured in the payroll exercise and minimize potential human errors.

Comrade Faruk Abubakar Sadiq, the Kebbi State Chairman of NULGE, made this appeal on Friday during a press conference at the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He emphasized the need for additional time to finalize the compilation, stating, “In light of the situation, we respectfully appeal to His Excellency to consider extending the timeframe for this exercise by no less than two weeks.

Additionally, we request the immediate release of October salaries to mitigate any financial hardship for our members.”

The union representatives expressed their profound gratitude to Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for his proactive and historic decision to implement the new national minimum wage of N75,000, positioning Kebbi State as a leader in Nigeria on this issue.

Similarly, the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, who also serves as ALGON Chairman, echoed the call for a two-to-three-week extension to allow for a comprehensive listing of all local government employees.

He commended Governor Idris for his pioneering action in advancing the welfare of Kebbi State workers.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Dutsinmari, assured the union leaders that their request would be promptly conveyed to the Governor for consideration.
