Gov Idris Receives More Than 4,500 PDP Defectors In Arewa LGA

More than 4,500 members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Arewa Local Government Area on Monday.
The defectors were presented to Governor Nasir Idris by the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru, during the Governor’s ‘Thank You’ visit to the area.
Among them were retired Permanent Secretaries who pledged their support to the Governor.
The APC Chairman commended the decision of the defectors to join the APC, describing it as a wise political move.
He directed the APC leadership in the local government to integrate the new members fully into the party’s scheme of affairs, with equal treatment, rights and privileges.
Governor Nasir Idris welcomed the former PDP members, assuring them of equal treatment and justice within the party.
He expressed delight about their decision to join the APC, which he attributed to his administration’s commitment to development and inclusiveness.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Engr. Ahmed Yusuf Tanko and Samaila Dan Iko acknowledged Governor Idris’ development projects and his fair treatment of people, regardless of their backgrounds, as key factors that motivated them to join the APC.
Addressing party supporters at the Arewa Local Government Secretariat, Governor Idris thanked them for their support during the last elections.
He reiterated his commitment to improving the wellbeing of the people and ensuring that development spread to every community in Kebbi State.
The Governor promised to renovate the palaces of district heads in the area and announced that electrification work in Kangiwa, a border town with Niger Republic, would commence in two weeks.
He acknowledged the town’s electricity challenges and assured residents of his administration’s dedication to rural transformation.
Governor Idris also revealed that a contract had been awarded for the reconstruction of the collapsed bridge on the Birnin Kebbi–Makera road linking Niger Republic.
The Governor appreciated the people of Arewa Local Government for voting APC into power in the last gubernatorial elections and emphasized his resolve to deliver on his campaign promises.
Governor Idris criticized opposition elements, stating that the 2027 elections would reveal the true support base of his administration.
Comrade Nasir Idris also extended his ‘Thank You’ visit to Bunza Local Government Area, where he received similar commendations from party members and supporters.
Prominent politicians, including Hon. Nurudeen Usman Kangiwa, State House of Assembly member representing Arewa; Dr. Hussaini Suleiman Kangiwa and Hon. Garba Rabiu Kamba, House of Representatives member praised the Governor’s achievements.
Others who spoke in support of the Governor included Alhaji Sani Zamarke, APC Chairman of Arewa LGA; Hon. Muhammad Hamidu Jarkuka, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs; and Hon. Sani Kulita, Chairman of Arewa Local Government.
