You’re Our Role Model, NUJ Eulogizes Kebbi Governor

The National Leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has described Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State as a role model and a shining example of good governance.
NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya Abdullahi, gave this commendation during a courtesy visit to the governor at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday.
He noted his keen interest in documenting the governor’s campaign promises and achievements.
“Our Comrade Governor is working; NUJ has given him a pass mark of 100%. I am branding him ‘Governor without Borders,’ and we shall continue to support you,” he said. He also appreciated the governor for sponsoring the first NUJ Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Kebbi.
Comrade Alhassan highlighted key projects of Governor Idris, including the establishment of a fuel dump at Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport to enhance air transport and Hajj operations.
He also praised the governor’s commitment to digitalizing Kebbi Radio and Television, improving road infrastructure, and advancing agriculture and education.
NAWOJ National President, A’isha Ibrahim, who was part of the CWC delegation, lauded the governor’s achievements in urban and rural transformation. “Our inspection of the State Secretariat Complex confirmed that Kauran Gwandu has left an indelible legacy,” she stated.
She also commended the governor’s choice of aides, particularly the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, whom she described as an excellent mentor. She further acknowledged Kebbi’s leadership in rice production, saying, “Fadama is proof that Kebbi is the rice hub of Nigeria.”
The Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, introduced the CWC members, explaining that the union chose Kebbi for its maiden meeting to appreciate Governor Idris’ unwavering support. “The governor sponsored Kebbi delegates to the NUJ Delegates Conference in Owerri and also facilitated this CWC meeting,” he noted.
Responding, Governor Nasir Idris described his leadership as a rescue mission. “God, in His infinite mercy, has destined me to be governor against all odds,” he declared.
He emphasized that his administration has modernized the state capital and is transforming other urban and rural areas. He highlighted significant achievements in education, agriculture, and infrastructure.
“My government has sustained the free provision of fertilizers, agricultural inputs, and food items for our people. In the next two to three weeks, I will flag off another round of fertilizer distribution, while 250 truckloads of food items have been procured for Ramadan,” he announced.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to workers’ welfare, stating that salary payments, gratuities, pensions, death benefits, and leave grants remain a priority. “I will never let workers down,” he assured.
Governor Idris described the NUJ visit as historic, as it was the first national union to be hosted by his administration in 2025.
He emphasized the importance of a strong government-media relationship, stating, “Cordiality between the government and journalists is vital for societal progress and good governance.”
He pledged continued collaboration with the NUJ to drive development across all sectors.
“Kebbi shall remain a labour-friendly state,” the governor assured.
