APC Apologises to NUJ Over Attack On Journalists
THE Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, apologised to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Edo State Council for Assaulting some of its members during the party’s governorship primaries in the state.
Recall that some journalists, who covered the APC’s primaries on Thursday, February 17, 2024 were beaten at the Lushville Hotel in Benin, collation centre and their gadgets were destroyed in the process.
The APC, in a letter of apology sent to the leadership of the union also said they were willing to replace all the items destroyed and foot the medical bills of the injured.
Consequently, upon the receipt of the letter, the leadership of the union summoned an emergency congress where it was resolved that the APC should be given temporary relief until March 16 when the party promised to replace the lost and damaged gadgets.
Chairman of the council, Festus Alenkhe, said: “Based on this letter of apology and also a letter of commitment to replace all the damaged items, congress has today resolved that the decision for us to boycott all APC activities in Edo State should, henceforth, be put on hold between now and the 16th of March, 2024 because the APC Edo State has also agreed to replace all these items on or before the 16th March, 2024. After that, we will reconvene and take further steps to ensure that this issue is finally resolved.”
