Fraudster Arrested For Posing As Amotekun Recruitment Official
A suspected fraudster, Kareem Taiwo, has been arrested by security agents in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, while trying to defraud some residents who wanted to register into the state security outfit codenamed Amotekun Corps.
Taiwo, who is from the Ibadan North Local Government Area of the state, was arrested on Monday for trying to swindle unsuspecting members of the public.
Report gathered that the suspect was earlier seen pasting a notice at the Adamasingba Stadium, venue of the recruitment screening. He was said to have indicated his name and phone numbers on the notice.
However, the management of the security outfit got wind of the notice on Monday.
He was subsequently apprehended and handed over to security agents.
The suspect, when interrogated, blamed the act on the devil.
“Only one person contacted me through my number,” he added.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), Gen. Kunle Toogun (retd.), urged members of the public to be wary of fraudsters in their quest to enlist into the corps.
According to Toogun, screening of applicants into the corps, which started from Ibadan, would be extended to other parts of the state.
The screening exercise commenced last week with applicants presenting their certificates for screening.
