Gov. Idris Flags-Off Construction Of Classrooms Under AGILE Program



Kebbi State Government through the Adolescent Girls Initiative for learning and Empowerment (AGILE) in incollaboration with the world Bank and Dominat Engineering Limited will construct additional classrooms ,upgrade 120 schools at the cost of N8.9 billion naira to create more conducive learning environment for students particularly the girl child.

In a Press Statement signed by YAHAYA SARKI, Special Adviser (SA) to the Kebbi State Governor on Media and Publicity.

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State announced this at the flag off of construction of additional blocks of classrooms at Government Day Secondary School, Bubuce,Augie local Government Area this Saturday.

Eight new classrooms, an administrative block ,multi purpose hall,laboratory and toilets would be constructed at the school.

He said ‘ This flag-off will enable the construction of new schools designed to upgrade 120 schools from primary school to junior secondary and junior secondary to senior secondary schools under AGILE program”.

Idris pointed out that his administration’s desire was to change the educational fortune of the state for the better through creating “best enabling environment that will promote,.enhance and institute the education of girl-child in the fabrics of our society.”

He, therefore, noted with satisfaction that the administration wasted no time in giving education its place of prominence and priority, adding, “For us, education is a priority and good education for the girl-child is our guarded and guided obligation that must be promoted and sustained at all cost.

Comrade Dr. Nasir remarked that positive results have been recorded since the inception of AGILE program in Kebbi State.

He gave assurance that Government would sustain the provision of conducive environment for learning and teaching as well as uphold the importance attached to girl child education.

Idris announced that the ongoing rehabilitation of educational infrastructure would be vigorously pursued in line with commitment of his administration to improve the standard of education in the state.

The governor reminded parents that education and moral upbringing of children were the collective responsibility of the Government, the school and parents emphasising the necessity for all stakeholders to provide the needed support to education.

He announced that he would Flagg off the construction of Mega Schools in Argungu next two weeks and that such schools would also be constructed in other headquarters of the four Emirates aimed at increasing enrollment of pupils into the formal education sector.

Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida explained that the AGILE educational project would cover all the 21 local Government Areas of the State.

He said the governor has approved some selected schools in the 21 local Government Areas where the AGILE project would be carried out to enhance learning.

In his welcome remarks, the Hon. Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad Bande who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Abubakar Magaji said the flag off of the program in Bubuce,Augie local Government was another historic occasion in the state.

He reiterated that the AGILE program entailed construction and upgrade of 120 schools across the state.

According to him, ‘ 45 primary schools will be upgraded to secondary schools while 75 junior secondary schools will be upgraded to senior secondary schools and the programme will equally empower girls students financially ‘ he stated.

The AGILE project, he said would complement the state government’s efforts in giving a facelift to schools in the state.

In his address, the State Projects Coordinator, Aliyu Mohammed-Birnin-Kebbi reaffirmed his readiness to support the state government in upgrading some schools to the next level.
