In an inspiring demonstration of an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and social equity, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), has once again taken a groundbreaking step to uplift the lives of Persons With Disability (PWDs)in the state.

Through a historic empowerment initiative, N100 million has been disbursed to 1,000 individuals with disabilities across Kebbi’s 21 Local Government Areas.

This remarkable programme launch which coincided with the International Day for Persons with Disabilities, reflects the Governor’s unwavering dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance among vulnerable populations.
Each beneficiary received a grant of N100,000, carefully designed to enable them to invest in profitable ventures and build sustainable livelihoods.

The disbursement ceremony, held in Birnin Kebbi, was graced by the First Lady of Kebbi State, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, who reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for persons with disabilities. “This initiative aligns with Governor Nasir Idris’ vision to uplift the welfare of persons with disabilities, integrating them into society and providing a pathway to financial independence,” she stated.

The beneficiaries were encouraged to use the grants responsibly, with a commitment to accountability, as the government pledged to monitor their progress to ensure a lasting impact on their lives.

The Chairman of the Kebbi State Persons with Disability Commission, Alhaji Anas Malami Gwandu, commended the Governor for his compassion and transformative policies. He highlighted other efforts by the administration, such as the establishment of the Commission for Persons with Disabilities and the recent appointment of five persons with disabilities as Special Assistants.

In a touching moment during the event, Abdulhakim Abubakar, a wheelchair user and third-year Education Chemistry student at Federal University Birnin Kebbi, was celebrated as a symbol of “ability in disability”.

Abdulhakim, who previously received a motorcycle and a teaching job offer from the Governor, represents the Governor’s philosophy of recognizing and nurturing talent regardless of physical challenges.

This latest initiative is part of a broader strategy by Gov. Idris to ensure that no citizen is left behind. Beyond the financial empowerment program, the Governor has taken bold steps to institutionalize support for persons with disabilities by signing the bill for the establishment of the Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

This commission is tasked with safeguarding their rights, promoting inclusivity, and providing a platform for sustainable development.

Gov. Idris’ actions have resonated widely, drawing commendation from traditional leaders, policymakers, and advocacy groups.

The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, and members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly have lauded the Governor for his forward-thinking policies and dedication to justice and equity.

With these strides, Kebbi State is setting a new benchmark for inclusive governance in Nigeria. Governor Nasir Idris’ administration is not only transforming lives but also proving that leadership rooted in empathy and vision can create a brighter future for all.
