The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has received significant boost with the defection of 3,936 members from the opposition People’s Democratic Party PDP, into its fold this Wednesday.

Governor Idris, along side the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, formally welcomed the defectors in the course of “Thank You Visit” by the Governor to Suru, Koko-Besse, and Maiyama Local Government Areas.

The statewide visit is an expression of gratitude to the people for their support to him and the APC, before, during and after the 2023 general elections.

Among the notable defectors was Alhaji Muhammadu Ruwa RK, former PDP Zonal Vice Chairman, Kebbi North, who led 3,500 PDP members from Dakingari in Suru LGA into the APC.

Similarly, in Koko-Besse LGA, 333 key PDP stakeholders were presented to the Governor by Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, State APC Chairman.

Explaining their decision to switch allegiance, Alhaji Muhammadu Ruwa RK and Alhaji Attahiru Abubakar highlighted Governor Idris’ track record of developmental projects and his philanthropic kindness as the driving force behind their move to the APC.

In a remark, the APC State Chairman assured the defectors of fair and equal treatment, urging party executives at the local and ward levels to co-opt the new members into the party’s activities as one big family.

Governor Nasir Idris welcomed the defectors with open arms, pledging to provide a level playing field to all supporters of the APC.

He expressed appreciation for the support and prayers from the people of Kebbi State to his administration, affirming commitment to the sustenance of good governance and service delivery.

The Governor highlighted major achievements of incumbent administration since ascension to power, such as the completion of the State Ultra-Modern Secretariat Complex, construction of township roads in Birnin Kebbi and other towns, improved security, and the payment of WAEC and NECO fees to students.

He also emphasized the administration’s focus on educational development by making education free at all levels and covering registration, tuition, and scholarship fees for secondary and tertiary students.

“My administration is committed to ensuring free education in Kebbi. We have taken on the responsibility of paying for examinations, registration, tuition, and scholarships for our students,” Governor Idris stated.

Additionally, Governor Idris announced plans to launch dry-season farming in February, which will include distribution of power tillers, free fertilizers, and water-pumping machines to farmers. He also pledged to distribute food and grains during Ramadan to alleviate the burden on residents.

He also assured the crowd of ongoing plans to rehabilitate the dilapidated Kawara Bridge while contracts have been awarded for the reconstruction of key roads, including Suru-Sangelu, Suru-Shuwaka, Naikenike-Kataru, and Aljanare-Buma roads.

In Maiyama LGA, 103 prominent PDP stalwarts, together with hundreds of their supporters, joined the APC.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. AbdulWasiu Andarai affirmed unwavering support to Governor Idris and his vision to transform Kebbi State.

APC stakeholders from the three LGAs commended Governor Idris for his commitment to good governance and operating an open door policy.
