Group To Empower 48,000 Katsina Women In 16 LGs

No fewer than 48,000 women across 16 local government areas of Katsina State, particularly those in frontline areas, are set to benefit from an empowerment initiative by the Women Initiative for Northern Nigeria Development.

The group’s coordinator, Zainab Mohammed, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press conference held in Katsina.

According to her, the initiative is part of a broader effort aimed at fostering community ownership of development, safety, and well-being, with the implementation slated to span three months.

“We are commencing this significant empowerment drive with women residing in the frontline LGAs of Katsina State,” Mohammed stated.

She further unveiled the “Neighborhood Committee Network (NCN),” describing it as a grassroots movement designed to empower neighbourhoods within various communities and villages. This network aims to enable communities to take a proactive role in their development, safety, and overall well-being.

“The establishment of this network of community-led committees is geared towards creating a vital platform for citizens to converge, exchange ideas, and collaboratively work towards achieving shared objectives,” she added.

Mohammed highlighted that the group’s focus will encompass critical areas such as community development projects, enhancing safety and security within neighbourhoods, promoting social cohesion among residents, and fostering environmental sustainability.

“As part of our strategic plans, we will establish a national secretariat. This will enable us to develop a comprehensive training programme and cultivate strong partnerships with governmental agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and private sector entities. Our overarching goal is to build stronger and more resilient communities that are better positioned to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities at any given time.

“We extend a cordial invitation to all stakeholders to join us on this transformative journey. Together, we can forge a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our communities,” Mohammed said.
