Kaduna State Labour Party Decry Exorbitant Election Fees_
The Kaduna State chapter of the Labour Party has condemned the high fees imposed by the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KAD-SIECOM) for the upcoming local government council elections.
Hon. Yusuf Solomon Danbaki, Chairman of the Interim Labour Party Kaduna State Executives, described the fees as “a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise grassroots candidates and undermine democratic participation.”
The non-refundable deposit of ₦2,000,000.00 for Chairmanship candidates and ₦500,000.00 for Councilor candidates is excessive and will hinder popular participation in the electoral process, according to Danbaki.
The party executives are urging Governor Uba Sani to intervene and reverse the law imposing these financial requirements, citing his administration’s democratic principles and responsiveness to the people of Kaduna State.
They also called on the Judiciary to ensure the integrity of the electoral process by assigning experienced judges to handle election disputes. This, they believe, will guarantee a fair and transparent process.
Danbaki emphasized that the Labour Party is committed to inclusive and accessible elections, prioritizing the welfare of the people and ensuring that the electoral process reflects the will of the people.
