Kebbi State Governor Addresses Global Participants On Vision 2050 For Zakat And Waqf

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris (ƙauran Gwandu), delivered a keynote address at the 13th World Zakat and Waqf Forum Annual Meeting and International Conference, held on November 1, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center, Indonesia.

In his remarks, Governor Idris praised the event’s theme, “New Zakat and Waqf Global Order,” as a critical, timely initiative grounded in compassion, justice, shared prosperity, and Islamic values worldwide.

He emphasized that the principles of Zakat and Waqf, when fully harnessed, serve as powerful tools not only for charity but also for sustainable social and economic development on a global scale.

The Governor stressed the importance of redefining wealth distribution and social responsibility by positioning Zakat and Waqf as pillars of an inclusive economic system. Such a system, he noted, could transcend geographical, cultural, social, and political boundaries to combat poverty, social exclusion, and inequality, particularly among vulnerable populations.

Governor Idris called on governments, private sectors, civil societies, and religious organizations to unify efforts in making Zakat and Waqf accessible, transparent, and impactful worldwide.

He highlighted these structures as reliable instruments for addressing systemic challenges faced by disadvantaged communities, especially in developing countries.

“In my commitment to advancing Zakat and Waqf in Kebbi State,” the Governor stated, “I established a Ministry for Religious Affairs and revitalized the Zakat and Waqf Board early in my administration.”

The Secretary General of the World Zakat and Waqf Forum, Datuk Mohammed Ghazali M.D Noor, expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for attending the conference despite his busy schedule and urged him to continue his efforts in advancing Islamic social finance for societal betterment.

The event also saw the participation of the Deputy Secretary General, who is also the Chairman of the Association of Zakat and Waqf Operators in Nigeria (AZAWON), Malam Muhammad Lawal Maidoki (Sadaukin Sakkwato), along with other representatives from across different continents.
