LG Chairman Hails Gov. Idris Over Payment Of Outstanding Electricity Bills To Communities

Alhaji Shamsudeen Umar-Faruk,the Chairman of Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi, has lauded efforts of Gov. Nasir Idris over upsetting outstanding electricity bills to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for two communities in the area.

The Etene and Mutubare communities in Kalgo LGA have been without electricity for five months due to transformer fault, ineffective armored cables and inability of the residents to settle their outstanding electricity bills.

Umar-Faruk, while interacting with the residents in Etene and Mutubare in Kalgo on Thursday, said that Gov. Idris had settled all the outstanding bills owed to KEDCO by the residents in the communities.

“After I had a meeting with the governor regarding the lingering issue of electricity in your communities, the governor directed me to go and settle all the outstanding bills owed to KEDCO.

” He also said that all that is needed as regards to transformer installation and purchased of armored cable be provided forthwith.

“You have seen it yourself that the KEDCO engineers have started working in earnest, and any moment from now as soon as the work is completed, the light will be restored,” he said.

Umar-Faruk described the governor’s gesture as salutary, noting that Gov. Idris is a people’s governor and a promise keeper.

The chairman thanked the governor for the gesture done to the people in the communities and urged the communities to jealously guard the facilities against acts of vandalism.

Also speaking, Alhaji Ibrahim Bande, the Village Head of Etene,
stated that restoring electricity to the community and other communities in Kalgo local government area would reinforce economic activities as well as shoring up the security of lives and property.

He called on the people of the state to continue to pray for peace and prosperity in the state in particular and country at large.

On his part, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, the village head of Mutubare, stressed that the reconnection would surely increase people’s economic consciousness and bring an upswing in business activities that had become comatose so that they could contribute more to the growth of the state economy.

Bello thanked the governor and the council chairman for showing concern to the plight of the people, assuring that the residents would sustain the monthly payment of the electricity bills to avoid disconnection.
