Minister Warns FERMA Contractors Over Projects Abandonment

The Minister of State for Works, Mohammed Bello Goronyo, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling Federal Emergency and Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) projects, urging them to fulfill their commitments or face consequences.
Speaking during a familiarization tour of the South West section of FERMA yesterday, Goronyo emphasized that the era of project abandonment is over. He reminded contractors that the funds for these projects come from taxpayers, who deserve full value for their money.
The Minister directed FERMA to submit a comprehensive list of defaulting contractors to his office within one week for necessary action. He also called for the establishment of a robust Technical Committee to oversee project monitoring nationwide, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
He stated: “The country must tighten its belt and combat the challenges frontally. We have been drawing from a well without water for so long. We now have a President who is willing to face the challenges head-on without complaining.”
Goronyo pledged to conduct unscheduled visits to project sites to personally assess contractor performance. He also assured FERMA staff that their welfare remains a priority for the ministry.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by FERMA, the Minister noted they are significant but not insurmountable. He assured State Coordinators that issues raised during his tour would be addressed to enhance the agency’s operations.
A statement from the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, quoted Goronyo as saying:
“We must all support His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to deliver on his mandate. Doing things differently is crucial for overcoming the hurdles we face.”
The Minister commended the Federal Road Management Engineers (FRME) in the South West for their dedication and urged collective efforts to ensure FERMA’s success.
