Nation-building: FG Urged To Set Priorities On Education Sector

The Apostolic Church Grammar School, Old Students Association, TACGSOSA, Orishigun, and Ketu members have called on the federal and state governments to address Nigeria’s appalling educational standards, arguing that since education is still the cornerstone of any society’s development, it should be given top priority.

The old students of the school, who celebrated the 60th anniversary of their alma-mater, expressed gratitude to God for sparing their lives to meet again after graduation many years back.

Speaking with newsmen, the old students took turns to express satisfaction over the foundation that was laid for them in the past, stressing that all hands must be on deck to bring back the lost glory.

The newly-elected President of TACGSOSA, Barrister Solomon Alabi, of 1981 set, called on the administration of President Bola Tinubu to accord priority and increase budgetary allocation to education sector for quality teaching and learning.

Alabi, however, expressed confidence in the administration of Tinubu to revamp the education sector in due course.

He lamented the poor funding and neglect of the education system in the country over the years by subsequent administrations. According to him, a critical sector like education requires adequate funding to develop the human capacity needs of the nation.

Alabi stressed the need for more funding of education in Nigeria, charging the Federal Government to adopt strategies such as reviewing the curriculum of colleges and faculties of education and appointing professional educators in education administration positions.
