Northern Groups Condemn Niger Republic’s Allegations Against Nigeria, Demand Apology

The Arewa Youths Coalition for Peace and Political Development and the Northern Elders Progressive Group have issued a communiqué condemning the Niger Republic’s allegations against Nigeria. The communiqué, signed by Hon. Yusuf Abubakar, Alhaji Yasir Ramadan-Kano, and Engr Mustafa Aliyu Dutsin-Ma, demanded an immediate apology from the Niger Republic.
The groups specifically rejected the claims made by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, Military Head of Niger Republic, that Nigeria was conniving with France to destabilize his country. Hon. Abubakar described these allegations as “irresponsible, lacking decorum, and unpresidential”. He emphasized that such baseless claims can overheat the polity and create unnecessary tension between the two countries.
The communiqué also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts in sustaining the fight against insecurity challenges in the northern region. The groups acknowledged the mobilization of military and security personnel under ‘Fansan Yamma’ to confront security threats. They expressed confidence in the president’s ability to restore peace and stability in the region.
Furthermore, the communiqué emphasized the need for Northern leaders to unite and address the region’s challenges. Hon. Abubakar stressed that unity, peace, and development of the North are sacrosanct to ensure cohesion and political understanding amongst all Nigerians. He called on Northern leaders to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal of developing the region.
The groups also criticized some clerics for spreading misinformation and creating unnecessary tension. They appealed to these clerics to stop using vulgar language and instead allow professionals to speak on issues they’re knowledgeable about. Hon. Abubakar noted that some clerics have become tools of propaganda and mischief, using their platforms to spread falsehood and create confusion.
In addition, the communiqué called on the President of Niger Republic to tender an immediate apology to Nigeria and stop creating tension between the two countries. They also urged Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, to bring an end to bandit kingpin Bello Turji’s reign of terror in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina states.
The communiqué concluded by commending Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for his efforts in ensuring security and peace across the country. Hon. Abubakar expressed optimism that the National Security Adviser’s efforts would yield positive results and lead to improved stability and security in the region. The groups reaffirmed their commitment to working towards peace, unity, and development in the North and Nigeria at large.
