Police Arrest Delta Suspected Gunrunner
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a suspected gun runner and notorious cultist, Bibi Asengbe, 38, whom the police identified as being on the command’s wanted list.
According to the reports gathered on Monday, around 1.13pm, the Divisional Police Officer, Orerokpe Division, SP Paul Obaware, received information from a member of the Okwukoko Anti-cult Unit that the suspect was sighted on a motorcycle around the Okwukoko community, Punch Metro.
Consequently, the DPO mobilised the patrol team from Orerokpe alongside members of the local anti-cult group, and they trailed the suspect to his hideout at Okwukoko where he was arrested.
Our correspondent gathered that when the security team conducted a thorough search on him, a locally made English Berretta pistol was recovered.
Police investigation further revealed that the suspect was on his way to supply the arm to one of his customers at Jakpa Junction Warri at a cost of N250,000.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident to journalists on Tuesday, said the investigation was ongoing.
Also on Monday around 3am, the DPO of Oghara Division in the Ethiope West Local Government Area, SP Suleiman Doma, was said to have led a combined team of policemen from the division and the State Investigation Bureau to a criminal hideout in the Otefe community, Oghara.
During the operation, one Edafe Ajari, 29, and Wallis Louis, 24, both of the Otefe community were arrested and one pump action gun, two double barrel cut-to-size, one battle axe and three live cartridges were recovered from them.
