Remembrance Day: Mutfwang Promises Assistance To Armed Forces
Caleb Mutfwang, the governor of Plateau State, has reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing the resources and favorable conditions required for the Armed Forces to carry out their constitutional duties of safeguarding the lives and property of State residents.
He made this statement on Sunday at the Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA Unity Church, Rayfield, Jos, during the Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service honoring the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
His words, “This is a service in remembrance of our fallen heroes and indeed, we want to thank God for those great men and women who devoted themselves to the service of the nation and in the line of duty, lost their lives while others were maimed or became incapacitated. Some died in the course of the battle, some died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of protecting the nation, and they left their loved ones behind. Unfortunately, as a nation, we have not done well in looking after those who had served the nation appropriately, and I am praying that as a nation, we will do better in looking after them.”
Governor Mutfwang described the Armed Forces as a crucial and critical institution for the survival of Nigeria and called for adequate attention to issues that will improve and boost the morale of the personnel for selfless service.
He also noted, “I will continue to advocate that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces will insist on the return to true professionalism within the armed forces and the security agencies, and I am sure when we begin that journey, it will be worthwhile.”
Earlier, the Director of ECWA Evangelical Missionary Society, EMS, Rev. Elisha McPhillips, who delivered the sermon, taking his text from the Bible book of Psalms 23, stated that as long as God remained our shepherd, we shall not lack anything and expressed confidence in the Nigerian Army to end the ongoing terrorism, armed banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the country.
Additionally, Rev. Pandam Yamsat, the former president of the Church of Christ In Nations, or COCIN, offered special prayers for the Nigerian Legions and the Armed Forces, asking for greater knowledge and discernment to continue the arduous task of defending the nation and the Plateau.
