Three Days After Being Released From Ondo Prison, An Ex-Convict Was Apprehended For Robbery And Drug Offense.
Akure—Three days after being freed from prison for the same offense, 29-year-old ex-convict Matthew Simeon was taken into custody by the Ondo State security group, known by the codename Amotekun, on suspicion of armed robbery and drug-related offenses.
Simeon was paraded alongside 28 other suspected criminals arrested for various offences, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and theft among others.
The state commander of the security outfit, Adetunji Adeleye, said: “In the last week, we were able to arrest 29 suspects that were involved in different forms of security breaches, which range from kidnapping, armed robbery, housebreaking, shoplifting, stealing of motorcycles among others.”
“The corps also arrested a 29-year-old Mathew Simeon, who left the correctional centre on January 1 and got arrested again on January 4 for the same offence he was previously jailed.
“One issue of note is that in all of such instances, we always have a recycled criminal. In this case, there is a particular suspect who left the correctional centre on January 1 and on January 4, 2024, (less than one week), he went into burglary crime again.
The former prisoner declared himself to be a drug dealer who also committed robberies. We also have roughly four suspects who broke the state’s anti-grazing law.
“In a similar vein, individuals who were involved in illegal firearm possession and were placed on our watchlist within the previous five months were apprehended brandishing pistols that were made locally and used for malevolent purposes.”
