Taraba state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has reduced university school fees by 50 % to cushion the current hardship in the country. Making the announcement at the Taraba State University (TSU) Wednesday Governor Kefas said quality education is his main priority. He said he has since declared a state of emergency in the education sector.

He noted further that he is committed to free education at the primary and secondary school levels.

Many of the university students expressed joy at the development, saying the reduction in fees would greatly enhance their lives.

Some of the parents who spoke to our correspondents said the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy has made payments of school fees difficult. Hailing the development, they said the slash has raised their hopes.

Meanwhile, Governor Kefas has embarked on many policies to alleviate suffering. He recently began the process to pay pensioners and retirees. He has also directed prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements.
