Nine More Army Generals Retire, COAS Pledges Improved Welfare
The Nigerian Army has nine generals who have retired from active duty.
Maj. Gen. A.O. Adetayo, Maj. Gen. J.E. Jakko, Maj. Gen. A. R. Bakare, Maj. Gen. A. B. Adamu, Brig. Gen. N. L. Isama, Brig. Gen. O. F. Ohunyeye, Brig. Gen. O.A. Adenuga, and Brig Gen II Adamu are the generals who are from the finance corps of the service.
Nine generals have retired, less than a month after 113 generals left the Nigerian Army on December 19, 2023.
A statement on Sunday by the Director, Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu said a passing-out parade was held in honour of the senior officers on Friday.
“The Nigerian Army Finance Corps had earlier honoured nine of its senior officers in a Pulling Out Parade organised to honour retired and senior officers of the Corps on Friday, 12 January 2024.
“The Nigerian Army Finance Corps WASA 2023 featured rich cultural performances by different cultural troupes, a tug of war between female soldiers and soldiers’ wives, presentation of awards to outstanding soldiers and prizes to performing cultural troupes,” the Army spokesman said.
Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, assured that the troops’ welfare and well-being remain his priority.
According to the statement, he spoke at the Nigerian Army Finance Corps West African Social Activities marking the end of the year 2023 in Lagos on Sunday.
“To boost troops’ morale and fighting spirit, the Chief of Army Staff ( reiterated his commitment to the welfare and well-being of Nigerian Army personnel and that of their families under his watch.
“Describing welfare as the number one pillar upon which sound administration rests in his command philosophy, the COAS reassured troops that their welfare topped the priority of his agenda for the NA. He pledged that he would not fail to improve troops’ welfare at every opportunity, “ the statement added.
Lagbaja advised the soldiers to keep an eye out for further initiatives to raise living conditions and accommodations in NA’s barracks and cantonment, which would be evident in the coming year.
The COAS pledged to cooperate with the President’s strict budgetary directives to reduce waste in order to strengthen the flagging national economy.
